Planning for 2017 Holidays Around the World

Planning events overseas is always an adventure. There are new contacts to make, new venues to check out, new activities to source, plus hundreds of the usual planning details that need attention. Amid the planning hustle and bustle it’s easy to forget that your host country is bound to have a number of national celebrations and holidays going on at times different than our own. And if you’re not paying attention, those holidays might happen in the middle of your event, triggering plenty of logistical headaches.

So, if you’re not a regular tracker of national holidays elsewhere, before nailing down your next overseas event dates, first, consult a national holiday calendar for your destination, as well as your contacts on the ground to determine how much of an impact their holidays may have on essential elements like attendance, guest room availability, local staffing and access to local tourist-oriented activities.

Also, don’t forget to also check in advance for city-specific celebrations, parades, festivals and religious observances, any or all of which can interfere with your plans. With this in mind, here’s a top line on 2017 national holidays  in a few of the world’s most popular meetings destinations, namely Australia, Canada, China, France, Hong Kong, Italy, the US, the UK and Singapore:
